Back in 1993, God spoke to me about ministering to teenagers and starting Next Generation ministries… but I was resistant. I had a bad attitude because I wanted to talk to college students, but God had a different plan. Eventually, I surrendered my own will, and said yes to what God had called me to do—and Next Generation has now reached over 100,000 high school students.
The Old Testament book of Jonah vividly describes how God used Jonah mightily in spite of his reluctance and disobedience. In Jonah 1:2, we read the Lord’s words to Jonah, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”However, instead of obeying God’s plan and traveling to Ninevah, Jonah tries fleeing to a city called Tarshish in the complete opposite direction.
Well, in God’s mercy, no matter how far we run—as long as we turn back to Him—God’s plans for us never change. We see this redemption in Jonah 3:1-2, Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” Wow! The word of the Lord came to Jonah again.
Though he did not deserve mercy, Jonah received another chance from God. Friend, I want to encourage you today—you are never too far gone to receive another chance from God. And what’s even more amazing is that God wants to make you a person of another chance—an instrument of His mercy for others to experience His unfailing love.
To discover how you can both receive and extend God’s great mercy, dive into this message with me…
