The Key to Wisdom

October 25, 2024

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

James 3:13

Did you know the starting point of wisdom according to God’s Word is something called the fear of the Lord? I know what you’re probably thinking—isn’t fear a bad thing God wants us to overcome? Well, there are actually different types of fear we see throughout Scripture.

King David explains clearly in Psalm 111:10, The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. You see, the fear of the Lord is a healthy fear! In Deuteronomy 5:29, God says, “Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!”

I believe that fear of the Lord is the seedbed of an extraordinary life. To say we “fear God” doesn’t mean we’re afraid of Him because He’s angry or unpredictable. Instead, the fear of God is an awesome, reverential trust and respect in response to His greatness.

Friend, God is full of love, compassion, and power. His heart is for you and He has your absolute best interest in mind. That’s why we honor, respect, and fear Him. Walking in the fear of the Lord means daily going to God as our source—and not the world.

This week, I encourage you to ask yourself, “What am I basing my life on? What is my source?” As you daily draw upon God’s Word for strength, guidance, and wisdom, you will begin walking in the supernatural peace that the fear of the Lord produces in our lives!
