When Hurricane Katrina tore through the New Orleans region in 2005, Church of the King was only six years old and we were in the middle of a building campaign. Overnight, our area was devastated and the church’s attendance was cut in more than half… I remember asking myself in that difficult season, “Is this it? Is God going to finish His dream for Church of the King?”
You see, when hardships and delays hit us, we all often ask, “Is it over? Will this dream ever come to pass?” Perhaps that’s where you find yourself right now. If so, I want to encourage you today—God is the dream-giver and He is faithful to fulfill His promises to you… however, delays are inevitable.
In the book of Genesis, we read the story of Abraham and Sarah. God promised Abraham in Genesis 12:2, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” In other words, God called Abraham to be a father… but he was 75 years old at the time. His wife, Sarah, was 65 and barren. So, they were battling both the time clock and infertility.
Abraham and Sarah desperately needed God to fulfill the dream He had given them. After 25 long years, God blessed them with a son—Isaac. Genesis 21:3 says, “For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.” Friend, I want you to read that verse carefully. The dream was fulfilled at the set time God had for Abraham and Sarah.
Let me encourage you today—God has a set time for you! His plans for your life are good. In life’s delays, God is building the character of Christ on the inside of us so we’ll be able to handle the promise when it comes to pass.
