Growing up, I loved to fight. If someone said the wrong thing, I was ready for battle. Yet when I surrendered my life to Jesus as a college freshman, everything began to change. God softened my heart, replacing my desire for conflict with a longing for His peace.

In Matthew 5:9, Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” In other words, those who create peace reflect the very nature of God. This was a radical message to His audience.

You see, at the time, Israel was under Roman rule—marked by oppression, division, and control. Peace was in short supply. Many believed the Messiah would bring military power to overthrow their oppressors. Yet instead of preaching revolution, Jesus preached peace.

Paul later echoed this call in Romans 12:18, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”

Friend, as followers of Christ, we’re called to bring peace wherever there’s conflict and to be agents of reconciliation. It’s not always easy, but with Jesus, it’s possible and worth it!
