How To Overcome Loneliness

January 24, 2025

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

1 Corinthians 12:18–19

After surrendering my life to Christ as a freshman in college, God not only transformed my heart—He also transformed my relationships. You see, I quickly joined a small group and began spending time with people who loved God, encouraged me, and even challenged me. To this day many of my closest relationships have been formed in church.

Friend, healthy relationships are necessary for us to thrive as individuals. Let’s go back to the beginning in Genesis 2:18 when God says, …“It is not good that man should be alone…” Wow—Adam was in perfect communion with God, walking with Him in the cool of the day. Yet God declared that continual solitude apart from other people was “not good.”

This tells us something crucial about our design—we were made for relationships—not just with God, but also with each other. As the apostle Peter describes in 1 Peter 2:5, in Christ we are: …living stones…being built into a spiritual house. Notice the imagery here—not isolated bricks laid end-to-end, but stones fitted together, supporting and complementing each other. Only when stones are brought together, shaped to fit one another, can they create something greater than themselves.

Choosing to pursue healthy relationships isn’t always easy. It requires vulnerability, intentionality, and, sometimes, a willingness to be uncomfortable. Yet the rewards are immeasurable! When we find our place in God’s family, we experience a richness of life that can’t be found any other way.

If you’re ready to learn more about making the relationship decision every day, I’d love to share more with you in this message…
