As a teenager, I ran a small lawn business every summer. I’d start strong as the weather warmed, mowing lawns and making money. But one summer, my mower suddenly stalled. No matter what I tried, it wouldn’t start. Turns out, I had been using old fuel—bad gas clogged the engine.
In a similar way, you can be going along in your spiritual life, and boom—your momentum stops. Why? You have something unhealthy in the tank…
You see, unforgiveness is like bad fuel—it clogs our hearts, stalls our momentum, and keeps us stuck.
We’ve all been hurt before. We’ve all faced disappointments, betrayals, or conflicts that left us wounded. We can let that pain turn into bitterness if we’re not careful. That’s why Scripture warns us in Hebrews 12:15, See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
So, how do we clear out the “bad fuel” of unforgiveness?
✔ Choose to Forgive—Forgiveness isn’t about letting someone off the hook; it’s about setting yourself free. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14, “If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
✔ Choose to Pray—Joseph, despite being betrayed by his own brothers, wept, prayed, and ultimately released them (Genesis 43:30). When we bring our hurts to God, He gives us the strength to let go.
✔ Choose to Bless—Instead of seeking revenge, Romans 12:21 tells us, Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. When we bless those who’ve hurt us, we break the power of bitterness in our own lives.
Friend, is there someone you need to forgive today? Is there a wound you need to release? Don’t let unforgiveness stall your momentum. Choose to let go, pray, and bless.
Let’s take this step together. I’d love to share more with you in this message…
