Battling Darkness?

March 21, 2025

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

John 8:12

I’ll never forget my first year as a Christian—I underwent a season of having to sleep with the lights on. I was 19 years old, but I legitimately felt an evil presence in my room at night. I felt safer with a $2 lightbulb keeping the room bright than sleeping in the dark. Thank God I was being discipled by a man named Doug, who told me, ultimately, only the light of God’s Word drives out darkness.

Maybe you’re not leaving the lights on at night, but you feel like a dark cloud has been hovering over you. Perhaps you’re battling discouragement, fear, and confusion. If so, there’s good news—Jesus is the Light of the World, and His light can break through any darkness.

In John 8, Jesus boldly stated: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” You see, Jesus didn’t just come to expose sin—He came to bring hope, healing, and direction. His light reveals truth, guides our steps, and transforms our lives.

The best part? Jesus doesn’t just shine His light for us—He shines His light through us. In Matthew 5:14, He says, “You are the light of the world.” As followers of Christ, we carry His light into a dark world.

Friend, are you walking in His light today? Are you allowing His truth to guide your steps? And are you shining that light to others?

Let’s lean into this together. I’d love to share more with you in this message…
