What's Flowing Through Your Heart?

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Luke 10:36-37
I’ve traveled to Israel many times, but one drive always stands out—the steep descent from Jerusalem to Jericho. In just fourteen miles, the elevation drops 3,400 feet, winding through rugged, desert terrain. It’s the very road Jesus described in one of His most well-known stories: the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus told of a man who was beaten, robbed, and left for dead on that road. A priest and a Levite both passed by without stopping. But then came a Samaritan—someone from a group typically despised by the Jews. Instead of walking past, he was moved with compassion. He bandaged the man’s wounds, lifted him onto his own donkey, brought him to an inn, and paid for his care—promising to return and cover any extra costs.
That kind of mercy wasn’t required. Yet it was given.
Friend, this story isn’t just about being kind to others—it’s a picture of Jesus. When we were broken, wounded, and helpless, He didn’t pass us by. He met us in our pain. He poured out His mercy. He lifted us up, brought healing to our hearts, and gave us hope for the future.
And Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”
